Professor Chen KaixianProf. Chen received a bachelor’s degree in radioactive chemistry in 1967 from Fudan University. Prof. Chen also received a master’s degree in 1982 and a doctorate degree in 1985 from the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Science. From 1985 to 1988, Prof. Chen conducted postdoctorate studies in the Paris Institute of Biology, Physics & Chemistry. In 1999, Prof. Chen was named an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Chen is currently President of the Shanghai University of Chinese Traditional Medicine; a researcher, doctoral supervisor and director of the academic committee of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; director of the academic committee of the State Key Laboratory of Drug Research; Chief Scientist of the project “Innovative Drug Research Based On Genetic Function” under the National Basic Research Program of China (Plan 973); and a member of the experts group of the National Key Sci-Tech Special Project under the Eleventh Five-Year Plan “The Key New Drug Creation and Manufacturing”. Prof. Chen is also chairman of the executive council of the China Society of Doctors in New Pharmaceuticals, chairman of the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine and vice council chairman of the China Pharmaceuticals Association. Prof. Chen serves as vice chairman of the Shanghai Science and Technology Association, vice chairman of the Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association, and chairman of the Pudong New District Science and Technology Association. He is also an adjunct professor at Zhe Jiang University, China Pharmaceutical University and Fudan University.

Professor Chen KejiProf. Chen Keji is currently Professor of Internal Medicine of Xi Yuan Hospital, Beijing and Principal Researcher of the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As one of the pioneers in integrated Chinese and Western medicine, Professor Chen is an expert in cardiovascular and geriatric diseases. He is a key participant in the development of Coronary Tablet II as well as a compound prescription for improving qi and activating blood circulation for treating coronary disorder and relapsing angina. Prof. Chen also sorted out the original medical archives preserved in the Imperial Palace of the Qing Dynasty and published the Medical Prescriptions Written for Cixi and Guangxu with Commentary. A distinguished researcher and a dedicated educator, Professor Chen has produced over 240 academic papers and nurtured some 60 post-doctoral researchers and postgraduate students. He has won many prestigious awards in his career spanning 50 years, including the Albert Einstein World Award of Science, and was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Professor Hou YunDeProf. Hou is currently Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of the Board of Beijing Tri-Prime Gene Engineering Co, Ltd.Born in 1929, Hou Yunde is a researcher at the Institute of Virology at the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. He received his BM from the Medical Institute of Tongji University in 1955. From 1958 to 1962, he studied at the Institute of Virology at the Russian Academy of Medical Science and graduated with a PhD in medicine. He has been a researcher at the Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Science, and Director of the Anti-Virus Treatment Research Centre. The Chief Scientist for three consecutive terms in the national level "863" development plan in the bio-tech field, he has published over 200 articles in academic journals and 6 books.

Professor Wu ZuzeWu Zuze(1935.10.19), hematologist, born in Zhenhai, Ningbo, became Member of the Chinese Acad in 1993. He is the first to have introduced and popularized the theory and technology of blood-m cell in China’s blood research field, and has cooperatively succeeded in the first case in the patient suffering from serious radiation sickness with the method of feral liver transplants cooperatively. He has cloned and identified Chinese human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor realized its high efficient expression. He has also discovered human origin hepatic growth fact been awarded prizes for Natural Science and for Science and Technology Progress. He has success president of Military Academy of Medical Sciences, director of China’s Experimental Blood Social managing director of China’s Medicine Society.

Professor Yu DequanProf. Yu has been working in the study of natural products chemistry for over 40 years and has made outstanding accomplishments. He is one of the chief scientists of the key projects of medicinal chemistry. He has carried out the study on chemical constituents of over 50 Chinese herbal Medicines and found about 200 new compounds, of which the structures have been determined. Prof. Yu has participated in taking charge of the study on a National key Project " Artificial Musk" and to be responsible for the overall plan design, composition principles, production technology, quality control as well as the solution of problems in production . The project of "Artificial Musk" has been awarded the first Grade Prize for the Progress in Science and Technology by the National Management Bureau of Chinese Traditional Medicine.Prof. Yu had carried out studies on the isolation, structural elucidation, structural modification and synthesis of many natural products, including the purification and transformation of Changshan alkaloids dichroine A and B; the structure determination of hydroginkgolic acid; the structure elucidation and synthesis of gentianidine; and the search for antivirotic constitutes from Lian-Qiao (Forsythia auspensa) and Da-Qing-Ye (Isatis tinctoria). He has carried out studies on the antimalaria constituents from Chinese herbal medicine; structure determination of Ying-Zaosu A and B, two active antimalaria compounds from Artabotrys uncinatus. He has also carried out studies on the chemical constituents from Rhododendron dauricum; diterpene alkaloids from Spiraea japonica; active constituents from Polygonatum sibiricum, Triterygium wilfordii, Goanoderma lucidum and etc. In addition, Prof. Yu has carried out the study to solve the problems in the production technology of reserpine and has gained important results. Recently, Prof. Yu has studied on the chemical constituents from Chinese traditional medicine. He has found an immunosuppressive compound from Chinese traditional medicine Gao-Ben and has got Japan patent. This project has been awarded a Second Grade Prize for Progress in Science and Technology by Ministry of Public Health. In study on the antitumor constituents from Annonaceac plant, Prof. Yu has isolated and identified over 50 new active antitumor compounds, one of them showed strong antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo and having low toxicity. Prof. Yu has carried out the structural elucidation and the total synthesis of this compound. This project has also been awarded a Second Grade Prize for the Progress of Science and Technology by Ministry of Public Health. Prof. Yu has been awarded the Qui-Shi Science and Technology Prize (2001)Prof. Yu has published over 280 papers and has got 10 patents.

Professor Xiao PeigenProfessor Xiao Peigen is the founder and research leader of Chinese medicinal plant and Chinese Materia Medica (CMM), and a world-renowned ethnopharmacologist. He worked at the Institute of Materia Medica of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) from 1953 to 1983 as research assistant, research lecturer and associate research professor. Since 1983 he has served as professor and director of Institute of Medicinal Plant Development (IMPLAD) of CAMS. He got his honorary Ph. D from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2002, and was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994. He has been engaged in the research on plant phylogeny, phytochemistry, pharmacology and plant therapeutics with immunomodulatiing and antiaging activities, as well as biotechnology of medicinal plants. He has published 22 books, such as Modern Chinese Materia Medica I-V (2002-2006), and more than 530 original research articles and review papers. For his outstanding work, he has won a number of prizes by the Chinese Government and the Ministry of Health.

Professor Yao XinshengProfessor Yao is an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Sciences, graduated from the department of pharmacy in Northeastern College of Pharmacy (now renamed as Shenyang Pharmaceutical University). He was former president of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University. He is also assuming leading roles in several organizations such as the Commission of Pharmacy Degree Appraisal in State Council, the leader of the subject evaluation group of Chinese traditional medicine in National Natural Science Foundation, and the member of physic expert group in National Postdoctoral Administration Commission.
